Jo Wood-Brown x InnerCity Projects
In 2007 Miriam Parker and Jo Wood-Brown began to explore how they could come together to imagine different ways they could create interactions in the world around them, using the exigencies of figure-ground from painting and the gesture ritual of movement. Parker brings her insight as a mover to the two-dimensional and sculptural forms. At the same time, Wood-Brown oversees the construction and fabrication of their live environments that marry their two perspectives together.
By realizing their ideas in a collaborative form and various media, their work advocates for the diverse perspectives that make up a whole. As the work continues, it becomes an arena where their practices could meet, creating films and environments with performance and sculptural elements. Part of that exploration reveals various ways viewers and performers can experience and shift a work of art. Through the installations, the movement, the sound, and the imagery, InnerCity Projects bridge the boundaries of time and place. Their work extends beyond the literal to refer to ancient to modern archetypes that have persisted in this world throughout time, the basic needs of humanity to live and dream despite the fabricated boundaries of this world.
In addition, Parker and Wood-Brown have worked closely with Robert Dutiel, since 2013 in the fabrication and construction of numerous projects, including 'The Station,' presented at Whitebox, NY, and 'Pendulum' at Judson Memorial Church, NY.
